DOES THE SIZE OR SHAPE OF YOUR CHEST MAKE YOU ASHAMED OR EMBARRASSED?
Having excess fat or breast tissue as a man can impact every aspect of your life. And it’s not uncommon; one in three men suffer from gynaecomastia, particularly older male teenagers and men aged over 40. But gynaecomastia surgery can restore your body confidence and self-esteem.
WHAT IS GYNAECOMASTIA SURGERY?
It’s an operation to remove excess skin and tissue from your chest.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING GYNAECOMASTIA SURGERY?
The procedure is performed under a general anaesthetic and takes between 30 minutes to an hour for each side of your chest that needs to be treated.
If you have a small amount of excess tissue and good skin elasticity, liposuction may be used and requires one or two small cuts. If you have a firm disc of glandular tissue behind your nipple, a cut on the line of the areola (the darker area of the nipple) may be needed to remove the disc of tissue.
In severe cases of gynaecomastia, in addition to a cut on the line of the areola, a vertical cut underneath the areola and across your chest may be needed. Your nipple can be lifted so it’s in a normal position.
WHERE DOES IT TAKE PLACE?
At either the Nuffield Health Leeds Hospital or Spire Leeds Hospital.
IS IT RIGHT FOR ME?
If you’re considering gynaecomastia surgery, the first step is a one-to-one consultation. We will discuss your medical history and talk about the pros and cons of having the procedure.
The surgery will only be recommended if it is suitable for you, if you are a non-smoker and if the results you want are achievable.
