Do cysts, lipomata, skin tags and moles cause discomfort and embarrassment?
Skin lesions come in all shapes and sizes and are on, or just below your skin. Most are completely harmless but whether you’re concerned about a change in the appearance of the lesion or simply find them unsightly, skin lesion removal could be the answer.
WHAT IS SURGICAL SKIN LESION REMOVAL?
It’s an operation to remove an epidermoid cyst, a lipoma, a skin tag or a mole from your skin.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A SURGICAL SKIN LESION REMOVAL?
The procedure is usually performed under a local anaesthetic and takes around 20 minutes.
To remove an epidermoid cyst, an elliptical cut is made over the cyst so it is removed whole and to prevent it from returning. Dissolvable stitches are usually used.
To remove a lipoma, a straight cut is made directly over it. The lipoma is freed up from the tissues around it and removed. The stitches can be removed after about five days.
A skin tag can be numbed with local anaesthetic and then removed. You may not need stitches.
To remove a mole, an elliptical cut is made all the way around it. It is closed with stitches leaving a small, straight scar.
WHERE DOES IT TAKE PLACE?
At Skin Surgery Clinic in Guiseley, the Nuffield Health Leeds Hospital or Spire Leeds Hospital.
